Jaejin stopped by Gwangjudae's FLC office the other day. He invited me and 5 other native speaking English teachers to join him for a class. He teaches everyday for 2 hours to a group of 30 senior citizens. His class is Travel English. This is a great opportunity for me to volunteer with senior citizens (love old folks!) and do some professional development by observing a retired Korean principal in action teaching his peers in English.
Senior citizens have many classes that they can join. Bitgeoul Center has a "Senior University" program where they can study a language, music, and other programs for one year and receive certification.
Volunteer and do some prof dev at Bitgeoul Senior Center in Namgu! (next to Gwangju University) Wednesday, Feb 8, from 12-3pm. I'm looking for 4 native English speakers to join me . Lunch, tour of center and join group discussions with low level senior citizens studying travel English. Email me if interested: gwangjumaria@yahoo.com

JaeJin's questions :
1. What's the difference between reservation and confirmation?
Reservation is the plan only. Confirmation is more contractual in nature. The correct collocation would be: Here is your confirmation number for your reservation.
2. What's the difference of Here you go, Here your are, Here it is?
Here you go - this is informal
Here you are - this is informal, but more formal than 'here you go'
Here it is - this is used if you are missing something and then suddenly find it.
3. What's difference between English breakfast and continental breakfast?
Wow! Big difference!
English Breakfast: eggs, bread (toast,English muffin, pancakes), potatoes (fried), beans, mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, meat (sausage - links and patties, bacon, ham, kidneys), coffee and juice.
Continental breakfast is usually just juice, coffee and bread (toast, croissant, bagel, muffin) and jam, cheese, or meat for toppings. Maybe fresh fruit and cheese are served. This is much much smaller than an English breakfast.
4. And then what is American breakfast?
Similar to the English breakfast, but Americans don't usually have bean, mushrooms, or tomatoes. Usually it is eggs, toast, hashbrowns (fried potatoes), and meat (either bacon or sausage. sometimes steak or ham.)
5. How do you pronounce "adult"? We usually pronounce 2 kinds of way.

-6. I'd like a king bed. And then is there a queen bed?
I don't say king or queen. I say king-size, queen size. In America there are king size, queen size, double, and twin.

7. Will you draw a single room, a twin room, a double room?
I never say this.
8. What is the suite?
A suite is two rooms connected to the same bathroom.
9. What is the penthouse?
The top floor of a building. It is usually the entire floor of the building. It can be in a hotel or an apt building.
10. When we deposit the valuable things at the front, which is
correct expression 'safety box' or 'safe'?
Both are ok
11. We usually say "morning call" instead of "wake-up call"?
And Morning call is Konglish?
Yes, Konglish.
