Notes
These are my notes from the April 9th get together of the Gwangju Artist Collective. The April 9th meeting was for each member to bring a piece of art that they were working on to share with the group.
Started at 5pm in GIC Gallery. Cookies donated by moi and a bottle of wine donated from the exhibition opening of John Jackson's photography talk. Attendees included: Sam, Soeun, Cho, Gilda, Lisa, Maria, HeeSeoung, Jen, Anjee and Leroy. Newbies included: Cho and Jen. Special welcomes to them. Cho was here through Gilda's invitation - he is a Korean artist who studied in France. He has just returned to Korea after an exhibition in China. Jen is 'the' Jen from the Gwangju News comic strip 'Dear Korea.'
First up was an overview of Daniel's email. I turned it into a PPT file that you can look at here: Download GAC 2011 Organizational Ideas.
We reviewed the need for a board, the different types of things that the first group of GAC gatherees wanted, and what has emerged from the three meetings: Feb, Mar and now April.
Lisa then shared her art work via iPad. HeeSeoung, arriving late after a harrowing taxi journey, wanted to firm up a board. We reviewed the suggestions by Daniel again, but felt that more discussion on locking in a board was not what people committed to for this particular meeting. Soeun also shared her document for GAC Application which helps to get a feel for what people want out of GAC and to gather info needed for exhibitions. We then returned to reviewing each others work.
Maria shared a 'booklet' of photos and poems and wanted some feedback about image quality.
Gilda shared a painting and discussed the techniques she was using.
Sam gave us a glimpse at a sketch from his drawing sketch book.
Anjee shared some photo prints that will be exhibited online in the Seoul Art Group next week.
Soeun shared some recovered treasures she made that she sent her family in Korea while she was living in Korea. Cards and drawings were shared.
Jen passed around a little notebook that she keeps her drawings and thoughts in.
Leroy brought in a portfolio of the history of his comic strip 'Digby.'
HeeSeong closed the peer share with a painting that she made after the Indonesia tsunami.
Applications were to be collected, but I'm not sure if they were. Soeun needs to let us know if things were turned in to her.
Follow up needed
Please turn in your Gwangju Artist Collective Exhibition Application to Soeun. Lost it? Don't have one? Download it here: Download GAC_Application_Form_doc[1]
Who will lead GAC? Please take some time to give your opinion about how you can get involved in the board and who you think should lead it. I made a survey to help us gather info from previous and current attendees of GAC in 2011. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/FBF5MQP
Life Drawing. There was interest shown in putting together a life drawing event at a coffee shop. Can anyone make recommendations of models, spaces to gather and draw, as well as a preferred date and time?
FYI
Gilda, HeeSeong and Maria are heading up to Jeonju on Thursday April 14th to visit Anjee's exhibit and chat.
April 23rd from 7-9pm, Maria Lisak will be hosting an get together for the GIC Journal's Social Discourse of Disquiet at Jino's Cafe in downtown Gwangju. A glass of wine will be provided to all GAC attendees free of charge.
