What is EAEP? It's the Environmental Awareness Education Program which Andrea Hildenbrand has spearheaded. Gathering together her ideas, design background, performance experience, friends, coworkers, and organizations, she is building a sustainable education workshop for elementary 5th graders in the Gwangju area. The first set of workshops for elementary aged children is called the "Green Seed" program.
This workshop is designed to be a combined teaching effort. Korean teachers introduce the ideas of living green in the introduction lessons which elicit and explain concepts such as the greenhouse effect, deforestation, industry, emissions, and the effects/consequences of climate change. There are additional materials to help develop a green vocabulary in both Korean and English.
This lesson at the school is followed by a visit by Andrea, Trevor, and Namil. They bring a series of interactive activities - card games, trivia games, songs, puppet show and postcard making. The post cards are made to send to the government to introduce how even they as young learners are citizens of Gwangju.
